Bataan 2nd District Representative Abet Garcia recently shared an important update regarding the future of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP). In a meeting held on September 2 with representatives from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Rep. Garcia presented the structural and design plans for converting the BNPP into a state-of-the-art Data Center.
The conversion of the BNPP into a Data Center is expected to significantly impact the technology and communications sector in the Philippines. This project, which is still in the planning stages, aims to repurpose the BNPP’s infrastructure to support the growing demand for data storage and processing capabilities in the country. The successful implementation of this project could position Bataan as a key player in the nation’s technological development, leveraging the existing but unused BNPP infrastructure to create a vital resource for both public and private sectors.
The project aligns with broader national goals to improve digital infrastructure and enhance the Philippines’ competitiveness in the global digital economy. This initiative reflects a forward-looking approach to the utilization of historical assets, transforming them into resources that can drive economic and technological progress.
The meeting was attended by Bataan 3rd District Congresswoman Gila Garcia, DICT Assistant Secretary Gerald Reyes, DICT Director for Data Center June Vincent Manuel Gaudan, DICT Project Director for Services of the National Government Data Center Project Team Joshua Vazir Querol, and Architect Henry Mayuga.
